Code oF CONduct

The Maize Genetics Cooperation, Inc (MGC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the interests of the maize genetics, genomics, and breeding community as well as training and developing the next generation of scientists. To achieve this purpose, it is imperative that all members of the MGC uphold the highest level of scientific, professional, and ethical conduct, and adhere to the following:

1.  Treat everyone, including colleagues, students and staff, with respect, particularly in interactions that involve a power differential.

2.  MGC prohibits all forms of discrimination (whether based on race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, political affiliation, or any other factor), sexual harassment (including unwelcome sexual advances), and bullying (any abusive behavior directed at an individual or group). It is important to remember that discrimination and harassment can occur without malicious intent.

3.  Scientific misconduct, including falsification of data, fabrication of data, and plagiarism is a violation of this code of conduct. Promptly correct errors in your own work when detected.

All members are expected to follow the MGC code of conduct. This code of conduct covers all professional activities, independent of location and MGC-sponsorship. Failure to adhere to this code of conduct will result in consequences that could include, but are not limited to, having membership revoked, being removed from elected positions, retroactively revoking past awards, and being barred from current and future MGC-related activities.

If an individual experiences, witnesses, or becomes aware of a violation of this code of conduct (regardless of time or location and not limited to MGC-sponsored events or while conducting MGC-related work) by a member of the MGC, please contact the MGC Board of Directors (bod.mgc@gmail.com) or any individual board member (https://www.maizegdb.org/mgc/bod.php). All complaints will be treated seriously and responded to by the BoD.
